The original Addo Elephant National park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area . Today this + 120 000ha reserve is home  to over 450 elephants, Cape buffalo, black rhino, as well as a variety of antelope species. The flightless dung beetle is found almost exclusively in Addo.  The Greater Addo National Park is home to the Big 7 which includes the Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, Leopard and Lions as well as Great White Sharks and The Whale as it extends down to the Sea.  The coastal section of the park is also home to the worlds largest penguin and gannet colonies.
