Blue Gum Estate - Location
Blue
Gum Estate, is a 5 star country house situated about 30 kilometres
beyond Hermanus in the Klein Rivier valley.The
estate comprises 104 acres of vineyards, pastures, river frontage and
mountain fynbos. Blue Gum guest house offers guests an ideal base from which to
explore the attractions of Overberg, as well as providing a relaxing
country retreat.

The accommodation at
Blue Gum Estate consists of five mountain facing suites, decorated in English country
style and mini bar facilities, cooling fans,
satellite television, bath and shower facilities, beautiful views and
access to the gardens.

The food at Blue Gum Estate
After a day’s exploration,
guests gather round the fire or in the bar for sundowners. Cheese, biscuits and sherry are
delivered each evening to the privacy of your room as an aperitif. Dinner is served, depending on the time of year, in the main dining
room, the gardens or on the deck overlooking the vineyards. The
meals are memorable; excellent
cuisine, discreet service and pleasant atmosphere.
To wind up a perfect day Cigars and after dinner drinks are served round
the fire.

Facilities
on offer at Blue Gum Estate
Mountain bikes are provided for exploring dirt
tracks along the base of the mountains. Walking in the mountain, the river
and shady oaks provide welcome areas to rest. Tennis is a perfect way to
work up a thirst for a cold Gin & Tonic while getting a little gentle
exercise and making new friends. Lazing
in the shade, on pool loungers or a hammock is ideal for the less active the
lawns are ideal for the pleasure of an afternoon picnic, a bottle of wine or
for simply dozing. Landscape painting is a common afternoon pursuit, as
is photography at Sunset. Birding from well placed benches and pool loungers
is the best way to observe many of the 150 bird species found at Blue Gum
Estate.

Magnificent white beaches, riding, championship golf
courses, wine tasting at famous vineyards and a range of water sports,
including deep sea fishing, boat based whale watching, white shark diving,
sailing and scuba diving. Exploration of the surrounding area is worth the
effort with 20 nature reserves and botanical gardens, 16 museums, 20 art
and craft shops and 24 beaches on offer.
Neighbouring towns are interesting from both
contemporary and historical perspectives; Stanford and the Birkenhead
Brewery (the only microbrewery in
Southern Africa
),
the Klein Rivier cheese factory, Elim, founded by Moravian missionaries in
1824, Bredasdorp with its shipwreck museum, Arniston and
its 200 year old fishermen’s village.
Cape Agulhas,
the southern most tip of

and meeting place of the cold
Atlantic
and warm Indian oceans.
The
Fynbos Route,
the first of its kind in South
Africa
can be reached via Stanford. Upon
request local farmers offer personalised walking tours of farms, flower
reserves and conservation initiatives, explaining their own contribution
to conserving the local environment.

White Shark Diving is of the best
