After exiting the Johannesburg International
Airport, take the R24, R21 to Johannesburg and Pretoria. Stay on the
R24 (N3) to Johannesburg. You will need to take the slip road to the
left to remain on the R24 (N3) to Johannesburg. After joining the
highway, keep following the signs to the N3 (N1) to Pretoria, then,
when the road divides, stay on the N1 south to Roodepoort. You will
pass the Rivonia Road off ramp to your left. The next off ramp is
the William Nicol Drive off-ramp. Take this off ramp and at the
intersection, turn right onto the R511 to Fourways. Follow this road
through 3 intersections. After the third intersection take the
off-ramp onto the R564 Witkoppen Road. Once on this road,
immediately move into the right hand lane and turn right at the
first intersection, onto Cedar Avenue.
Continue along this
road until the T- junction. Here you need to turn left and then
immediately right (there is a large Sun City Sign). Follow this road
to another T- junction (sign: R512 Brits, Lanseria right, Randburg
left). Turn right, follow this road until the T- junction at a fruit
stall (sign: R 512 Pretoria right, Sun City left). Turn left and
follow this road for +- 10km, until a turning to the right (sign:
Brits, Sun City right). Turn right and go over the Hartebeespoort
Dam Bridge. At the next T- junction, (sign: R560 Magaliesburg left,
Brits, Sun City right), turn right. Follow this road to the 4 way
crossing. Turn left here. (sign: N4 Rustenburg, R512 Brits left,
Hartebeespoort Dam right). After +-15km until you reach a small
village. In the village is a right turn to the Pilanesberg (sign:
Rustenburg straight, Pilanesburg right). Take this road, which will
lead you to Sun City (+- 73 km to Sun City). You go straight
through all
the intersections and through the villages of Berseba, Lesung,
Tsitsing and Maile. Please watch out for goats, donkeys and cattle
on the road. There is a sign showing to the village of Modikwe to
the right in Berseba, please ignore this. Sun City will be on the
right and straight after is Sun Village, a good place to stop for
petrol. After passing Sun Village there is a 2 way stop, (sign:
Rustenburg left, Derdepoort right, there is also a sign for
Makanyane Safari Lodge at this junction). Turn right towards
Derdepoort. Follow this road for +-8 km until the Bapong sign (sign:
Bapong left, Derdepoort straight, there is also another sign showing
the direction to Makanyane Safari Lodge). Turn left towards Bapong.
You keep straight on this road until the end of the tar road. (There
is a sign showing left to Madikwe Hospital and Bapong, please ignore
this and keep straight to Batlhalengwe and on to Mabeskraal. Should
you need it, there is a petrol station in Mabeskraal, but it’s open
hours are very flexible! After leaving the town of Mabeskraal, you
will reach a 4-Way stop, turn right towards Derdepoort. Follow this
road until the tar ends, just before the Dwarsberg Café. You will
pass the Dwarsberg café on your left (there is another sign for
Makanyane here). Keep going until you come to a turn off to the
right with a sign showing to Madikwe River Lodge, there is another
Makanyane Safari Lodge sign here.
Turn right and follow this road for +- 28 km,
until you reach the Makanyane gate on the left hand side of the
road. There is a large “Makanyane” sign and a vehicle will be
waiting to welcome you.
